Looking for a great gift for someone in your life who is obsessed with TV and film? I put together a few ideas for you.

Hallmark Movie Fans: Good for you if you have a Hallmark movie fan in your home! I am one and love these movies, especially at holiday time. Now you probably already know there is a whole bunch of merch in the actual Hallmark stores, so I’m going to point you in the direction of my favorite Hallmark podcast, Deck the Hallmark. Bran and Dan and their friends talk about soooo many Hallmark shows throughout the year and then, come holiday time, it’s a Hallmarkpalooza of Christmas movie reviews. They are fun, funny and passionate about what they do. For fans who love their podcast, they can become a ‘Dekkie” and become part of the Facebook group. The guys have also written a Christmas book, “When’s It Gonna Be Christmas Again?” and, together with their friend and film critic Alonso Duralde, wrote, I’ll Be Home for Christmas Movies: The Deck the Hallmark Podcast’s Guide to Your Holiday TV Obsession. They have their own Christmas merch too! And if all of that isn’t enough, they came out with a Christmas Movie Magic Card Game that you play while you watch Christmas movies! To say I enjoy this podcast and this group of people is an understatement. They make living in a crazy world a little better.

Hollywood Pride, A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Representation and Perseverance in Film: A few months ago I had the pleasure of interviewing Alonso Duralde regarding his book for an article I wrote for Next Avenue. As a writer, this book is impressive with the detail of LGBTQ+ representation in Hollywood. I loved this book and your loved one will too.

On Location: A Film and TV Lover’s Travel Guide: It’s a shameless plug, but it’s my blog so I think that’s okay haha. It’s a great gift that helps to plan a trip around some favorite movies or celebrities. My book gives great ideas, listed state by state. For example, sit at the diners used in Top Gun and Breaking Bad. Visit museums about Lucille Ball and Jimmy Stewart, or television and movies such as The Christmas Story Museum, from New York to California. And statue alerts! Snap a photo with a bronzed Elizabeth Montgomery at the Bewitched statue in Salem, Massachusetts.

Film and TV Cookbooks! Last year, I listed a bunch of cookbooks that are based on a TV show or movie as gift ideas, so check out this list because they are not outdated ideas. This year, I would like to add one for fans of The Great British Bake Off. Chef and television personality Dame Prue Leith released, “Life’s Too Short to Stuff a Mushroom”! With 80 fantastic recipes designed for deliciousness while being quick and easy to put together, the book is perfect for any home cook wanting to put an elegant meal on the table with minimal time required. Recipes in the book include Celeriac Rémoulade with Prosciutto, Rocket and Pine Nuts, Crispy Pork Belly, and Sushi for Scaredy-cats. These dishes paired with Prue’s insights and anecdotes make for the perfect cookbook for the novice cook new to the kitchen or the seasoned chef wanting to learn a little more from one of the culinary greats!

WWE 2K24: Here’s another fact about me. I have unapologetically been watching the WWE since I was a little girl. I watch every week, almost every PPV, went to my first WrestleMania last year, and own merch. I don’t, however, play video games, but my (now adult) kids do and love them. Here’s my son’s review of WWE’s 2K24 which makes a great gift for WWE fans.

According to Travis Brinkley, a video game player and reviewer, “This is the most complete wrestling game on the market today. The in-ring action is smoother than ever, featuring Superstars of today and legends from Stone Cold Steve Austin to Bruno Sammartino. 2K24 introduces new Ambulance and Casket match types, as well as Special Guest Referee where you can call it down the middle or take matters into your own hands.

There is a full suite of other modes with plenty of depth. Compete against friends or the AI in MyGM to build the best weekly show, or control the entire WWE in MyUniverse. Compete in MyFaction to collect the best Superstar cards and alternate attires. Live your own WWE journey in MyRise or check out the Showcase mode to relive the greatest matches in WrestleMania history. WWE 2K24 has something for every kind of wrestling fan and is the premier title in this series’ 20+ year history.”

Thanks Travis!

Monopoly: I walked into my local bookstore and couldn’t believe how many games there were that were TV and/or film-themed, such as this Monopoly game that’s based on Grey’s Anatomy. You will “experience the drama of intense surgeries and personal relationships, immersing yourself in the intricate workings of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital through this fresh take on the classic game.” But maybe do what I do with the show and don’t play before you go to bed. LOL There’s also a Parks & Recreation Monopoly, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Ted Lasso, Peanuts, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and even Guy Fieri’s Flavortown!

Lego: Do I even need to start about how Wicked fans will love anything related to the movie or Broadway show this year? Agree or disagree with me, but Wicked was my favorite movie of the year. And yes, there’s even a Wicked Monopoly game! There are also many variations of Wicked Lego, including this adorable one of Emerald City (Santa, I’ve been a good girl!).

Games, games, and more games! I’ve seen games based on Stranger Things, Clueless, Good Omens, and more. Just put their favorite movie or TV show and “game” or “book” or “cookbook” in the search engine. Maybe their favorite actor, actress, or content creator can be found on Cameo where you can have a personalized message sent to them.

And I’m a huge fan of gift cards, especially if it means that we can see more movies or stream more TV shows.

This isn’t a long list, but it’s only two weeks till Christmas when I post this. I just wanted to give a few ideas if you’re stuck. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!

Many popular Halloween movies and television episodes have been filmed in or around Salem, Massachusetts. The most notable example is Hocus Pocus, a 1993 Disney movie starring Bette Midler as the leader of a trio of sister witches who are resurrected on Halloween night. Much of the movie was filmed in Salem and many of the locations are viewable today. I decided to visit Salem during my October road trip this year to see what the excitement was all about and to get a look at some of these famous locations myself.

The town of Salem, Massachusetts has evolved from a place filled with tragedy and history to a thriving tourist destination that garners almost one million visitors every October. Known for the infamous Salem Witch Trials, It has since become synonymous with Halloween, witches, magic, and anything generally spooky.

Before I continue, I want to give a disclaimer that, while visiting Salem in October sounds like fun, you definitely want to do your research before going. Visiting Salem in October is sort of like visiting Times Square in New York City on any day. I went on a Wednesday, one of the slower days of the week in October, and I was still having to move through crowds, fight for parking, and wait in lines for restaurants. (There were lines to get into some stores, too, but I simply didn’t see that as worth waiting for.)

There are also street vendors and musicians who will be fighting for your attention in addition to everything else you have to look at. It helps to cut out all that noise if you know what to expect going in. The Salem subreddit was a very useful resource for me, providing information on where to park, where to eat, and even a map of the public restrooms. Figure out what’s most important to you, make a game plan, buy tickets beforehand, and make reservations. Or, you could visit in November when the season is still autumn but most of the tourists have left. If I ever go back, that’s probably what I’ll do.

Essex Street

The main hustle and bustle of Salem happens along a strip called Essex Street. One of the first things you’ll see when you get there is a great statue of the witch Samantha from the TV show Bewitched. As someone named Samantha, I definitely appreciated this statue being there, but it’s also a great way to introduce visitors to the town of Salem and get them in the spooky mood. I passed it as I was on my way to lunch at Gulu-Gulu cafe and managed to snap a photo in between other people’s photoshoots.

At Gulu-Gulu, I enjoyed “Uh Oh, It’s Magic” grilled cheese with gouda and mozzarella, caramelized onions, and apple butter on sourdough. I also ordered the Sucker Punch mocktail, made with blood orange tea, pineapple, peach, lemon juice and lime juice.

While you’re walking along Essex Street, you’ll find a variety of shops selling various ooky spooky goods and services. Some of them offer things like tarot readings while others sell witchy supplies or clothes. I noticed as I was walking through the stores that there is a lot of Hocus Pocus merchandise, so you can grab some gear to prepare as you make your way to the viewable filming locations.

The first location you’ll likely come across is the Old Town Hall (below). Fans of Hocus Pocus should remember that this is where the Sanderson sisters bewitch the parents of the town into an all-night dancing frenzy, with Bette Midler singing a very fun version of “I Put a Spell on You.” While no longer utilized as a real Town Hall, it is still accessible to visitors as many Halloween events take place there every year.

When I passed by I saw some colonial women outside advertising an event called “Cry Innocent,” where visitors act as the Puritan jury deciding the fate of an accused witch. This event is different every time since the audience gets to question the accused and determine the verdict. I regret not building the time in for this since it seemed fun and the actors were really selling it. But even if you don’t do any events at Old Town Hall, it’s worth swinging by since it’s right in the heart of Essex Street on a cute cobblestone path. You can easily envision yourself as one of the Sanderson sisters, ready to walk in and deliver a spellbinding performance.

You can also visit the buildings used for the exteriors of Max and Allison’s homes (below).

Allison’s house is owned by the Peabody Essex Museum and is known as the Ropes Mansion. The gardens behind the house are free and open to the public to walk through. By the time I reached the house later in the evening the gates had closed, so make sure you get here on time if you want to see that. Either way, it was cool to see the outside of the building. Max and Dani’s home is a residential building that is still used as a private residence today, so you cannot visit or go inside. However, tourists can still (respectfully) look at the outside and take pictures. I skipped this because I personally felt awkward going to someone’s house, but for die-hard fans, it’s worth a stop.

Salem Common

Salem Common is worth visiting both because of its ties to Hocus Pocus and because it’s a great break from the crowds of Essex Street. It’s a large field with plenty of space for walking around, having a picnic, or sitting in the gazebo. I decided to walk to the Satanic Temple instead of driving and I made a point to walk through the Common. It was nice to get a moment in a quieter setting. Many outdoor scenes of Hocus Pocus were filmed here. Additionally, you can see the exterior of the building used for the high school from the Common, though the building itself is now closed.

The other two locations you can visit (that I didn’t) are Pioneer Village and Old Burial Hill. The latter is actually not in Salem at all, but about 15 minutes away in Marblehead. This is the cemetery where Max gets bullied at the beginning of Hocus Pocus. Pioneer Village is a living museum that recreates what life was really like during the Salem Witch Trials. This area was mainly used for the beginning of the film, while Binx was still a human. If you’re more into the historical aspect of Salem, this is worth a visit as it will transport you back to colonial times.

Halloween Museum

A different tie to movies and TV in Salem is the Halloween Museum. For how small this museum is, I don’t know if it’s worth the $10 price, but they did have some cool props from famous movies including The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Corpse Bride, The Haunted Mansion, and of course, Hocus Pocus. This would be a good spot for kids as there are a lot of blacklight displays they will enjoy looking at.

This has only skimmed the surface of what’s available to do in Salem. Outside of its ties to Hocus Pocus, it’s filled with various attractions and things to do. There are plenty of museums, walking tours, ghost tours, and events. I would recommend ending your day at the Derby Wharf (below). I stopped by just as the sun was setting and walked along the water towards the lighthouse. It was a lovely and calm end to a very energetic but hectic day. I hope you all have a Happy Halloween!

Why am I writing about The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum on a blog dedicated to film and television travel? Because many movies have been made from Dr. Seuss books! And, more importantly, this is an awesome museum you should add to your list of things to see.

Here’s how I got here: Several of Dr. Seuss’ books were made into movies, including How the Grinch Stole Christmas, directed by Ron Howard and starring the insanely talented funnyman Jim Carrey (Anthony Hopkins narrated!). This is one of my favorite versions of this book and I think Jim Carrey is a genius as the Grinch. Go ahead and disagree, that’s okay! Then there’s The Cat in the Hat, a 2003 film starring Mike Myers. I love Myers and this film is cute, but it could have been much better. And of course, there are many animated movie versions of his books. That’s why I think this museum deserves a mention here.

I grew up reading Dr. Seuss books and then used them to teach my three children how to read. My son was obsessed with Dr. Seuss when he was a little boy and even as an adult was happy when he unexpectedly came across Seuss Landing at Universal Studios in Florida a few years back (it’s still there).

When I learned that the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum was only a two-hour road trip from where I live, I took a day off to go. My kids are grown and I thought it would for the most part cater to children — okay, it kind of does — but I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt like I walked into a Dr. Seuss book.

The little kid in me was enthralled with all of the details in the museum, including on the walls and the stairs. The mom in me was transported back to when my kids were little and we read those books every night. The writer in me was amazed at what Theodore Seuss Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, accomplished in his illustrious career. Let’s take a closer look at the museum:

Dr. Seuss Museum

The Dr. Seuss Museum is located in Springfield, Massachusetts. It’s in what’s called the Quadrangle of the Springfield Museums, which also includes the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden; the Springfield Science Museum; the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts; and the Lyman and Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History.

The great part is when you buy a ticket to one of those museums, it gives you access to ALL of them. The highest ticket price is $25.00 for an adult and it goes down from there depending on if you’re buying for a child or if you are a senior citizen or member of the military. That’s seriously a great deal for FIVE museums. And if you’re lucky enough to live in Springfield, your admission is free. Even better, they are all within walking distance of each other.

When I first arrived, the main parking lot outside of the visitors’ center (where you must start your visit for any of the museums) was full. There is ample parking on the street, BUT there are parking attendants who religiously drive and walk around with meters that clock when they see your car parked at that spot. Then, if your car is not moved two hours later, you can get a ticket. You can move it to a different spot and your two-hour allotment starts over, but the maximum time you can spend in one spot is two hours.

On the day I visited, I had a limited amount of time, otherwise I would have visited all of the museums. I only had time to visit the Dr. Seuss Museum and Garden. I would also like to thank the Dr. Seuss Museum for providing me with a guest pass to visit.

The cuteness of the museum starts as soon as you enter. The first floor which is fully bilingual (Spanish and English) features many family-friendly, interactive exhibits that center on new sounds and vocabulary, rhyming games, and storytelling.

The interactive stations include the Giant Marble Maze; The Seuss Bakery; Whoville with Ball Wall; and Light Wall, Lorax Recycle Game, and more. I watched so many kids and their parents enjoying the games and suddenly wished my kids were little again.

And the amount of selfies you could take!

The second floor was where I felt like I stepped into Dr. Seuss’ home office.

“The second floor, curated by Geisel’s two step daughters and great nephew, recreates Geisel’s studio and living room (with the furniture and art materials he actually used) and features never before publicly displayed art, family photographs and letters, and the original Geisel Grove sign which used to hang in Forest Park. You can even find Theophrastus, the toy stuffed dog Ted Geisel’s mother gave to him when he was a boy in Springfield.

The writer in me was in absolute awe as I could picture him sitting in his chair writing his books, making up silly rhymes and creating his iconic characters. There was so much memorabilia and artifacts from his life, including drawings, letters he wrote to his fans, toys and games, his hat and bow tie collection and more.

The blue animals in the photo below were handmade by Dr. Seuss (more below the photos).

I learned that when he was a kid, his father was the superintendent of parks in Springfield and would often give him the antlers of deceased animals. I’m not quite sure what reaction I would have to be given that (yes I do), but the creative young lad turned them into characters!

There is one room where you cannot take photos. The memorabilia is private and while the family doesn’t mind that you’re looking at it, they don’t want it on the internet. PLEASE don’t be sneaky and try to take photos. And his awards:

Finally, outside is the Dr. Seuss Sculpture Garden, so don’t miss the photo ops here! Check these out:

There are so many more pictures I took, but you get the idea of how cool this Dr. Seuss Museum is. The museums are open Monday–Saturday: 10 am–5 pm and Sunday: 11 am–5 pm. Let me know if you go. I can tell you that the kid in me left there with a big smile on my face. And in the words of the man himself:

“The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

We’re off to see the Wizard! HURRY! Tickets are on sale for the Land of Oz weekends in Beech Mountain, North Carolina (and to date are selling out quickly). Honestly, it’s the closest you will ever get to jumping into The Wizard of Oz movie (which debuted 85 years ago!). I remember how excited I got when I went on the Sony Tour in California and stood on the trap door they used for Glinda the Witch in the iconic movie. I got chills picturing her standing there!

Now is the time to buy tickets to this fun event (all of the prices are in that link) held in September, from 6th to 8th, 13th to 15th, and 20th to 22nd at the site of the original 1970s theme park. According to the website, the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Cowardly Lion perform for you on your journey to meet the Wizard! Yes, the Wicked Witch and her Winged Monkeys show up too! You can visit the Gale farm, meet Glinda, follow the Yellow Brick Road, and go to Emerald City! In addition, there are craft and memorabilia vendors, food and beverages, face painting, live performances, and photo ops. Follow the Land of Oz Instagram for updates and just because I love their Instagram. Let me know if you go!

Gilmore Girls

Total transparency, as of the date I’m writing this post, I have yet to see one episode of Gilmore Girls, but don’t worry, that’s about to change. A friend of mine who loves the show wants me to watch it and then we will go together to Guilford, Connecticut to tour the town that became the fictional setting for the show. Did you know that there is also a Gilmore Girls Festival – called the Firelight Event — which runs from October 18-20, 2024? You do now!

The information I’ve gotten so far is that these people will appear at the event: Devon Michaels (Bill); Gregg Henry (Mitchum Huntzberger); Kathleen Wilhoite (Liz Danes); Emily Kuroda (Mrs. Kim); Katie Walder (Janet Billings); Nick Holmes (Robert Grimaldi); Aris Alvarado (Caesar); Valerie Campbell (costumer); Stan Zimmerman (writer).

Westbrook Inn Bed & Breakfast is a host hotel for this magical event and will host a Gilmore Girls Tea on Friday afternoon, October 19th.

For more information on the event visit https://www.thefanfestsociety.com/the-firelight-event.

I gotta go! I have a show to binge on Netflix!

Back soon with more events and trip write-ups!

Shawshank Redemption 30th Anniversary

How? How have 30 years gone by since this movie came out?! And how is 1994 thirty years ago? Okay, calm down Lisa. But seriously, this is one of my favorite movies ever. So well done. And now, Mansfield, Ohio, the filming town of this incredible flick (except for the last scene), is celebrating with a 30th-anniversary party from August 9-11 and you can be a part of it. Of course, you can just go to Mansfield at any time to visit the filming locations, but wait until you hear this. Want to know who’s going to be there? To date, this is the list:

  • William Sadler – Heywood
  • Mack Miles – Tyrel
  • Paul Kennedy – Food-Way Manager
  • Claire Slemmer – Bank Teller, Maine National Bank
  • Scott Mann – Glenn Quentin – Golf Pro
  • Renee Blaine – Linda Dufrense – Andy’s Wife
  • Alfonso Freeman – Young Ellis Boyd (Red) | Fresh Fish
  • Gil Bellows – Tommy Williams
  • Mark Rolston – Bogs Diamond
  • Bob Gunton – Warden Norton
  • Frank Darabont – Director of The Shawshank Redemption
  • Ben Mankiewicz – Host Turner Classic Movies

For the most up-to-date information sign up to “Get Shawshank News” at ShawshankTrail.com.

Lucille Ball Comedy Fest

I’ve done this before and it was so much fun. And, trust me, if I could drive there (Jamestown, New York) again just to see Nate Bargatze on the final day of this fest, I would. But you can still go and I suggest that you do. The festival attracts over 15,000 attendees annually from nearly every state in the country, who come together to share laughter while honoring the craft and contributors on stage at dozens of venues throughout Jamestown, including the National Comedy Center and the Lucille Ball Desi Arnaz Museum.

Lucille Ball Comedy Festival, August 1-4, 2024 in Jamestown, New York

Let me know if you go to any of these and I’ll be posting more!

Get out your planners and figure out how many vacation days you have left because you won’t want to miss any of these movie and TV festivals that celebrate your favorite TV show, movie, and legend! (I’ll be posting more of these events so reach out if you know of a festival you want me to mention.)

Shawshank Redemption 30th Anniversary Celebration

Let’s start with Shawshank Redemption, the movie that’s listed as number one on IMDB and there are so many good reasons why. Honestly, there isn’t a time that if I see that this movie is on television I go past it. This year is the 30th anniversary since its release, so Get busy livin’ or get busy dyin’ and join fans from August 9 through the 11th to celebrate this incredible movie. Taking place in Mansfield, Ohio, you will see tours, cast members, events, and filming sites along the Shawshank Trail. You will also get to go into the jail where Andy met Red. Details on the event are still being released, but this one will sell out really fast, so follow Shawshank30.com and “The Shawshank Trail” on social platforms for more information.

Lucille Ball Comedy Festival

Also in August is the don’t-miss Lucille Ball Comedy Festival in Jamestown, New York, where the queen of comedy was born and raised. I went to this a few years back and I can still guarantee that it’s worth the trip whether you love Lucille Ball, I Love Lucy or just comedy. There will be comedy late night, family variety shows, comedy trivia, The Ricardo and Mertzes Show, historic Jamestown tours, block parties, Tropicana events, and much more. Also, do not miss the National Comedy Museum and the Lucy Desi Museum tours! As a die-hard I Love Lucy fan (I have an I Love Lucy tattoo!) I can assure you I had an absolute blast going to this and you will too.

Gilmore Girls

If you have been obsessed with Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter, Rory, then you need to attend the Gilmore Girls Festival now called The Firelight Event in Guilford, Connecticut (otherwise known as Stars Hollow), which will be held October 18 through the 20th. If you’re reading this before the summer of 2024, then you should know the itinerary hasn’t come out yet, but most of the guests have already been mentioned and include: Devon Michaels; Gregg Henry; Kathleen Wilhoite; Emily Kuroda; Katie Walder; Nick Holmes; Aris Alvarado; Valerie Campbell (costumer); Stan Zimmerman (writer).

Little House on the Prairie

Little House on the Prairie ran for 9 years and now celebrates its 50th anniversary. Here is the current updated list of fan events that will be produced by Gravel Road Markets, LLC, in 2024, but check the LHOTP Facebook page for more information.

Laura Ingalls Wilder Days

Speaking of Little House on the Prairie, the author Laura Ingalls Wilder gets her own days to celebrate who she is and what she has accomplished. Laura Ingalls Wilder Days are held on September 14 and 15 in Pepin, Wisconsin.

Dean Martin

If the King of Cool is the music you turn to, then head out to Steubenville, Ohio for The Spot Bar’s 2024 Dean Martin Festival. This annual event is held on June 13, 14, and 15, there will be a karaoke contest with D.J. Paulie Walnuts and more. It’s free admission! The Fort Steuben Concert Series will present Dean Martin-themed performances by Bob Morelli, the Vince Villanova Big Band, and a Rat Pack Tribute show.

Other events offered include opening the Dean Martin Room at the Jefferson County Historical Museum on Saturday from 11-4. Earlier on Saturday morning, runners & walkers can participate in the Dino Dash 5K in the beautiful Beatty Park with music (Nail City Brass Band, 8:30-10:30 a.m.), refreshments for all, and information canopies for Dean Martin Association, Friends of Beatty Park and Jefferson County Genealogy Society. The Steubenville Visitor Center will offer Dino’s Downtown Trolley Rides from 11-4 on Saturday highlighting the significant sites and many of the City of Murals artworks.

Throughout Saturday, the Visitor Center will host a display of Dean Martin memorabilia and run a video of clips from Martin’s movies and television show where he mentions his hometown: “Sweet Memories of Steubenville.” The Steubenville Art Association will have a show and sale of original work related to the day.

For more information on these and other attractions in Steubenville, contact the Steubenville Visitor Center at 740-283-4935 or go to www.VisitSteubenville.com.

Blobfest

I feel like I just wrote about Blobfest and now I’m here to tell you about the event’s 25th anniversary! Every July, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania celebrates the movie with its annual Blobfest and this year it’s a whole new level of fun! There’s the Blob Ball, a Street Fair, film contests, face decorating contests, and the 7th annual Blobfest 5K, 10K and half marathon and so much more. Check out https://thecolonialtheatre.com/blobfest/ for more information!

Bramble Fest

Do you love Hallmark Christmas movies? Do you want to watch them year-round? Do you want to talk to other people who love Hallmark (and other) Christmas movies and want to watch them year-round? Then you need to check out the Deck the Hallmark podcast with Bran, Dan and Brian. They also have an annual event called Bramble Fest where fans of the podcast and Hallmark (and other) Christmas movies get together in Greenville, South Carolina. This year the event will take place on July 19 and 20th. I’m giving them a shoutout because their podcast is one of my favorites to relax and laugh. It’s a great fest for Hallmark (and other) Christmas movie fans. Plus these guys are a hoot. Check out their site and podcast, then join their secret Deckies Facebook group and go to the fest (non-Deckies can go too!).

Red Skelton

Let’s not forget about the comedians who paved the way for the comedians of today. Legendary Red Skeleton is celebrated in his hometown of Vincennes, Indiana with a comedy fest July 18 – 20th. For a list of events visit https://www.redskeltonmuseum.org/events/red-skelton-festival. And don’t forget to visit the museum while you’re there!

Forever Twilight

It doesn’t matter what team you’re on, the Forever Twilight in Forks Festival celebrates the movie and all of its fans of this incredibly popular movie franchise. This year, they are honoring the 15th Anniversary of the theatrical release of New Moon with immersive events, parties, special guests, and cast members who bring the characters to life!

The event will take place in Forks, Washington from September 12-15, 2024. Forks, Wash., is the place where Stephenie Meyer’s movie “Twilight” came to be. Fans can hang out with Saga actors and get to know the characters. Official FTF Cast Members portray the Cullen Coven, Jacob Black, the Volturi, and others featured in the story. There are themed parties, and activities at the Forks High School, including a panel discussion with the Saga actors, movie showings, and much more. The event is like a fandom family reunion where attendees get to hang with their long-distance besties and Twi-family! Visit https://forkswa.com/twilight/festival/ for more information.

Andy Griffith Show

Okay, who didn’t want an Aunt Bee in their life? Mayberry Days® is a festival for the whole family with activities and events for the fans who long for the days when life was simple and the sheriff didn’t carry a gun. This year, Mayberry Days takes place from September 23 – 29, at or around the Andy Griffith Playhouse, in the Historic Earle Theatre, in the Andy Griffith Museum Theatre (below the museum), at the Blackmon Amphitheatre, and inside the new Arts Center unless otherwise noted in the schedule. The Andy Griffith Museum is open 7 days a week and the Surry Arts Council has events going on throughout the year, so there are plenty of reasons to return.

Rex Allen Days

Don’t know who Rex Allen was? You might recognize his voice as the narrator in many Disney nature and Western film productions, but he was an actor and singer too. Rex Allen Days in Willcox, Arizona will be held October 4th through October 6th and include a parade, carnival, rodeo, live music, gun shows, car shows, wine tasting, and more.

Somewhere in Time

Somewhere in Time is AMAZING. My daughter’s name is Nicole Elise, and her middle name came from Jane Seymour’s character Elise (when I interviewed Jane I got the chance to tell her this and she was so moved). The movie was filmed at the Grand Hotel on Michigan’s Mackinac Island and every year they host a very popular Somewhere in Time Weekend. This year it’s from Friday, October 25th to Sunday, October 27th. The site says you can come in costume for the cocktail receptions and costume promenade. Breakfast and dinner are also included daily, and guests may also enjoy dining in elegant costumes in our Main Dining Room. For more information, click here.

It’s a Wonderful Life

Do I dare say that before you know it the holidays will be here (I’m typing this in May and it got here fast!)? When you think about the holidays, certain iconic movies come to mind. For many of you, It’s a Wonderful Life is a classic to watch on a loop, or at least once. Did you know there’s a festival at the It’s a Wonderful Life Museum in Seneca Falls, New York? Did you even know that there’s a It’s a Wonderful Life Museum? Now you know both. The festival will take place on December 13, 14 and 15. The guests and itinerary will be posted in June, but you should book your hotel soon. You should book hotels for all of these movie and TV festivals as early as possible!

I want to try some of the most famous restaurants we’ve seen on TV or in film and this time it means trying the famous Beef Wellington by Gordon Ramsay. I’ve watched Hell’s Kitchen and my mouth would water every time the Wellie was shown. If you’re a fan of Hell’s Kitchen, you know exactly what I mean. But does the dish live up to the hype?

Worth it?

Okay, I can, with 100 percent certainty, say it does. Now truth be told, this is the second time I’ve had Ramsay’s beef Wellington at Gordon Ramsay ‘s Pub & Grill in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The first time I was there was in 2016 when I was a guest of the restaurant and Caesars Hotel. I was there to write this article on that season’s winner. The beef Wellington was seriously the best meal I had ever had. I still remember the scotch egg I talked about in that article. It was insanely delicious.

This time, Caesars Hotel invited me back to check out Hell’s Kitchen and other restaurants for a quick overnight visit. This is where I had a few glitches and it shows you that not everything is perfect for travel writers. I couldn’t change the dates I would be there and Hell’s Kitchen was closed the night I was there. I was also supposed to visit Bobby Flay’s, but because of my significant other’s bad back that got worse as we got to the hotel, we just couldn’t get there. But all wasn’t lost. I had lunch at Gordon Ramsay ‘s Pub & Grill too. I’m not complaining. LOL

For lunch, I chose the Pub Burger, made with prime sirloin, lettuce, tomato, English cheddar, bacon, pickle and red wine glaze on a brioche bun. I prefer it made medium well. I give it a 7 out of 10. Wasn’t bad, but the tomato was mushy. The fries, however, get a 8 out of 10. Well seasoned and tasty.

That smile is all about the Wellington (excuse the frizzy hair, it was raining that day, but it gets better later!). This meal didn’t disappoint again and I ate every single bite. Now I will tell you if you’re interested in making the trip to try this, it runs about $65 for the meal, not including anything else but what you see here. Would I do it again? Hell’s kitchen yeah. LOL

I did get to see the outside of Hell’s Kitchen and took these shots. But damn I wanted to go in. Maybe next time!

Even though the beef Wellington stuffed me to the gills and I don’t think I wanted to eat again until two days later, there was still a place to get a nosh if you get a late night pang. The Tazza Cafe is located right across from Gordon Ramsay ‘s Pub & Grill. Take a look at those pastries! Yum again!

Nobu Hotel

My room was on the 44th floor of the Nobu Hotel (another part of Caesars Hotel) and it had a panoramic view of Atlantic City and the beach. So cool. Even with the rain, it was still relaxing to see the beach. (Did you know that the legendary Robert DeNiro is part owner of the Nobu Hotel chain? There’s another celeb connection for you.) Nobu Hotel just opened on the top three floors of the Centurion Tower at Caesars, featuring 93 rooms and suites designed by David Rockwell and his firm Rockwell Group. The good news — and what I’m picky about — the bed was extremely comfortable. Our room had a coffee maker, but no refrigerator (that we saw) and a shower with a seat.

So if you’re a foodie who loves watching Food Network and other reality cooking shows, there are a few places to try in Atlantic City. You might not win a competition, but you can see what all the fuss is about.

FYI, I’ve also been to a few of Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives locations and I’ve been to Sift, a bakery in Mystic, Connecticut owned by the winner of the Food Network’s Best Baker in America in 2018. They have some of the best pastries I’ve ever had.

I would like to thank Caesars Hotel and Gordon Ramsay’s for the hospitality. I will be back. My opinions here are my own as was my gambling budget LOL.

Every time I plan on going somewhere or doing something, I do some basic research before I go to see what’s nearby that I might want to visit. One night, when I was going to Monday Night Raw in Albany, I found The International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame.

If you haven’t noticed yet, I’m a huge fan of the WWE. I have been since I was about 9 years old when my brothers introduced it to me. I have been scared (and scarred) by such wrestlers as George “The Animal Steele” and mesmerized by my absolute favorite wrestler, Dusty Rhodes. I even had the pleasure of seeing Dusty wrestle in Madison Square Garden! And let’s not even talk about the wrestlers I’ve had sweet crushes on such as Dino Bravo, Triple H, Roman Reigns, and Drew McIntyre. But overall, it’s fun, and it’s my downtime each week and it’s the time I share with my kids via text and Skype if we’re not there in person. Honestly, being part of the WWE universe is incredible.

Other than a few years here and there, I’ve been watching regularly ever since. I introduced it to my children and they are now adults and still watch. We have gone to many events over the years and in 2023, I went to my first WrestleMania. I’ll never forget it.

I have always said that the WWE would benefit from having a museum. Think about all the costumes and props and weapons and masks and belts, etc., that would be in it. Imagine a life-sized wrestling ring where you can go in and take photos and try on belt replicas. Talk about a moneymaker for the WWE. Rumor is they are working on something like this, but I’ve been hearing about this for years.

In the meantime, I was surprised to stumble across the International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame when my kids and I went to see Monday Night Raw in Albany, New York. It’s located right in the MVP Arena. Now I will say it’s small, but it’s still interesting and gives you a taste of what could be a much bigger museum. We took some time to check it out before the event started. It was free, but donations are accepted.

There was much more than what I posted below, but these are some of my faves. Dominic DeNucci was tag team partners with Dino Bravo back in the day and I was surprised to see his robe there.
